Historically, culturally, and architecturally significant, and situated atop a Lake Michigan bluff, North Shore Congregation Israel stands as a revered landmark. The 20th century brought a handful of expansion and renovation projects, undertaken to meet its evolving needs while preserving its timeless legacy. This particular renovation included the redesign of Frank Memorial Hall, the hub of daily synagogue life, featuring new finishes, movable millwork, enhanced acoustics, reimagined lighting, and upgraded technology.  Rebecca K. Crown Hall, designed for larger and more significant gatherings, incorporates similar upgrades along with a newly designed ceiling that evokes a stunning, starry sky.

Valenti approached this project with a profound respect for the building’s architectural history and a deep understanding of the congregation’s ongoing worship and community events. Completed on time, under budget, and in close collaboration with outstanding project partners, we hope the redesigned space will continue to serve North Shore Congregation Israel for many years to come.

From our client: “We were dealing with a 60+ year old building and with that, some unknowns – but the outcome was great. It’s one of the smoothest projects I’ve been engaged with, mostly because it was open communication every step of the way, and problems and solutions were delivered at the same time.”
